Clan of Xymox

Formed in Amsterdam in 1984, Clan of Xymox became one of the mainstays of the 4AD label. Along with label mates such as Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance the Clan’s dark electro-gothic approach to music quickly became the benchmark by which all other bands to follow were judged.

In its long and storied history, Clan Of Xymox has developed a signature dark electro-gothic sound that has made the act adored around the world. With the new album, Matters of Mind, Body and Soul, the band explores its signature, melancholic sound, as evidenced by standout tracks such as “I Close My Eyes” and “I’ll Let You Go.”

The Bellwether Syndicate are a group of Chicago-based operatives of the sonic avant-garde, intent on speaking truth to power with a sharp tongue.

Fronted by veteran artist William Faith (of Faith and the Muse) and Sarah Rose (aka DJ Scary Lady Sarah), The Bellwether Syndicate are coloring outside of prescribed genre lines, choosing here to push the boundaries of style and substance into something relevant and vital.

Paul Robb

Paul Robb is a founding member of Information Society, a musical collective which has been recording and performing for over twenty-five years. After emerging from the Minneapolis underground in the mid-1980s, the group stormed onto the national scene with their international cult classic “Running,” one of the most influential electro/freestyle tracks of all time.

Led by founder/producer Paul Robb, the group went on to release numerous Top 40 hits, notably the No. 1 smash “What’s on Your Mind (Pure Energy),” as well as “Walking Away,” “Think,” and “Peace and Love, Inc.”. Numerous national and international tours followed; outside the United States, the group is especially popular in Scandinavia, Spain, Japan, and South America.

After departing Tommy Boy/Reprise Records in the mid-90s, the group returned to its electro-industrial roots on several independent releases. Re-releases of both “Running” and “What’s on Your Mind” have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Club chart in recent years.

6/21 Transmission on The Current Featuring All 80s Synthpop

Dream Into Action cover

To get us all ready for the Howard Jones show next Tuesday, the theme of last night’s Transmission on The Current was 80s synthpop. If you missed the show, listen over at The Current’s Transmission page.

As most of you know, the Kilted Farmer Koncerts team is full of synthpop fans, and we couldn’t be more excited to be brining Howard Jones to Minneapolis. DJ Jake Rudh will be spinning on Tuesday before Jones takes the stage and during the intermission between the Human’s Lib and Dream Into Action sets. See you there! And if you still need tickets, head over to ticketfly.com to make sure you don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime event! Full event details are here.

New Wave Icon and Synth Pioneer Howard Jones to Play Albums Human’s Lib & Dream Into Action in Their Entirety June 26

JUNE 5TH, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW WAVE ICON AND SYNTH PIONEER HOWARD JONES TO PLAY ALBUMS HUMAN’S LIB & DREAM INTO ACTION IN THEIR ENTIRETY JUNE 26

(Minneapolis, MN) – After much persuasion, Howard Jones has agreed to play his first two US platinum albums ‘Human’s Lib’ and ‘Dream into Action’ in their entirety on June 26th at the Varsity Theater. Fans will experience such hits as “New Song,” “What Is Love?,” “Things Can Only Get Better” and the US #1 “No One Is To Blame,” with specially created projected visuals accompanying each song.

Jones spent much of 2011 promoting the recently released remastered versions of the platinum albums with a “Classic Albums” international tour. The New Hampshire Union Leader commented, “Howard Jones’ remastered CDs and international tour is a showcase of his signature ’80s synthesizer sound, a blend of technologically intricate elements of new wave with a buoyant pop sensibility that reflects the spiritualism and optimism of his Buddhist beliefs.”

Jones takes the Varsity Theater’s stage at 8:00 pm to perform ‘Human’s Lib’, and then following an intermission, will perform ‘Dream Into Action’. Please arrive early. He will not be performing these albums again in the US after 2012 so this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Award-winning DJ Jake Rudh, who hosts TRANSMISSION weekly on 89.3 FM The Current and at Clubhouse Jager in Minneapolis, will be supporting Jones.

Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers. His first two albums HUMAN’S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits. HUMAN’S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits “New Song,” and “What Is Love?” In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: “Things Can Only Get Better,” “Life In One Day,” “No One Is To Blame,” and “Like To Get To Know You Well.” Jones recently re-mastered these classic albums and the associated 12-inch mixes, the latter being a special limited edition box set. They are all available now on his website: www.howardjones.com or on Amazon.com.

A classically trained pianist, Jones applied his technique to the early synths (particularly the Roland Juno 60, the Jupiter 8 and the Moog Prodigy). He also pioneered the classic Roland 808 drum machine and the Sequential Pro-One. In the early days he was triggering sequencers live on stage whilst playing and singing, something that no one had ever done before. These days he still operates on the cutting edge of today’s technology and has been one of the leading exponents of the Roland Fantom G8 and the Roland V-piano. Howard Jones has sold more than 8 million records worldwide and continues to tour the world extensively.

Howard Jones

Howard Jones played his 2011 two-album show at the Sandy Amphitheatre in Salt Lake City on 9th July 2011. The promoters were hoping for 1500 ticket sales but it turned out to be a complete sellout with 2,750 tickets sold and 300 turned away. He encored with the Killers’ ‘Human’ as a tribute to Salt Lake’s Brandon Flowers who had apparently been in line for a Howard Jones in store signing back in the nineties.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving from the Kilted Farmer team! There’s lots of great music to be seen and heard in the next few weeks. Here’s a sampling (links and details are in the table below).

Be safe this holiday season and we’ll see you at the shows. (Renee)

Transmission

Transmission is making it’s debut at the Varsity Theater on Thanksgiving Eve with SECONDS, which is an event not to be missed. Get there early to catch the deep cuts starting at 9 and come prepared to dance.

VNV Nation

VNV Nation returns to Station 4 the Monday after Thanksgiving with Straftanz. This probably goes without saying, but VNV Nation are always fantastic live. Here’s some video of Tomorrow Never Comes from the last time VNV were here.

The Birthday Massacre in Milwaukee

The Birthday Massacre is making a tour stop at the Miramar Theater in Milwaukee and are playing with _ash Aria_, featuring members of Imperative Reaction and The Awakening, and our friends I:Scintilla and Oncethesun. For those of you in Milwaukee or who can make the trip to Milwaukee, we highly recommend doing so.

Twin Cities Electropunk CD Release

Twin Cities Electropunk is releasing their 6th compilation showcasing 21 Twin Cities bands who embrace synthesizers, guitars, and the punk rock attitude. The compilation features Thought Thieves, Thosquonta, POP Inc., OBCT, Zwaremachine, Albuterol, Dissociate, MSRP, Avenpitch, Little Tin Box, The Blacklight, Mach FoX, Kether, OneNeoEon, St. Anthony Falls, The Trapezoids, The Night, Reflectivore, As|Of, Iron Balls Magente and iKKiA. A CD release show extravaganza is being held on December 3 at Club Underground on two stages. Watch the event’s Facebook page for a full band list and set times. All attendees receive a free copy of the CD. Or if you don’t want to wait, download the free compilation from Bandcamp.

The Dreaming

The Dreaming, featuring former Stabbing Westward singer Christopher Hall, have just announced a show in St. Paul on December 8 in support of their sophomore album and major label debut, Puppet. Puppet was released on November 1. The album gets back to Hall’s more electronic roots after 2008’s more rock oriented Etched in Blood. I’m personally a huge fan of both Stabbing Westward and The Dreaming and having seen The Dreaming live 5 times, I think I am qualified to say that The Dreaming put on one helluv an energetic live show. Here’s the video for their lead single, Every Trace.

A Moment Without’s CD Release
