Swedish synthpop juggernauts Covenant return to the Twin Cities supporting “The Blinding Dark.” Covenant’s 9th studio album steers like a probing Nautilus through black waters, straight towards the future, never looking back.
We live in dark, confusing times and Covenant wrote an album about how that makes them feel. In a world that’s stopped making sense, we need to learn how to see in the dark and ”The Blinding Dark” is a triumphant embrace of the strength and resilience of the soul. It’s the dystopian, unforgiving music of the reflective shadows we all carry within us, but often lack the courage to take a good look at. It’s implosive instead of explosive, fuelled by cold fury rather than a roaring fire, as beautiful as a collapsed star.
”The Blinding Dark” will make you feel the outrage and the sorrow of a band that refuses to smooth things over, put on a brave face and reach for false hopes. It’s staring into the darkness with eyes wide shut.
It’s also a new chapter for Covenant. The trio that became a quintet hasn’t sounded this focused and so on target since the legendary album ”Sequencer” 22 years ago. But there is nothing nostalgic about ”The Blinding Dark”. It steers like an unstoppable Nautilus through the black waters, straight towards the future, never looking back.
Welcome to the void.
Strongly influenced by the fruits of the downtempo Bristol sound of the early nineties, Endless Blue’s music spins the trip-hop style in a new direction while staying true to their roots. They infuse trip-hop’s “signature” lo-fi beats, vintage synths, and jazzy bass with guitar and songwriting that leans toward the indie-rock vibe of their original home of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sprinkled into these grooves are eclectic snippets of other genres, from synth-pop to industrial to loungecore to staright-up rock. Finally, bringing it all together is a female voice that is a blend of numerous eras, from the torch singers of the ’40s to the classic female rockers to the modern trip-hop singers.
Sweat Boys are an electronic dance group for those that know how to party dirty.
Le Hearse is a collection of synthesizers, drum machines, midi cables, 10 fingers, and a lot of programming.
It’s creator is Charles Sadler, who is a musician and composer who lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Charles Sadler believes in the fair treatment of DJ’s and also small pets.
